Perimeter Overflow Swimming Pool and Spa Located on Isle of Palms, SC
|
| |
This perimeter overflow swimming pool located on the oceanfront of Isle of Palms, SC is built by Aqua Blue Pools. Look closely at the video and you'll notice how the water is at the same level with the swimming pool deck; and that if flows into a slot built around the swimming pool's perimeter... hence the name perimeter overflow swimming pool.
These types of swimming pools aren't known just by the one name, perimeter overflow... but are known by a few other title descriptions such as waveless pools, overflow pools, perimeter overflow pools, slot overflow pools, knife edge pool, flooded deck pools, slot edge or wet edge pools, zero edge, wetted edge, no edge, flooded coping pools, or wet deck pools. Whatever you call it, they all provide essentially the same type of effect... that the pool looks like a glass mirror in your backyard.
These types of pools are not to be confused with the popular infinity swimming pools, vanishing edge swimming pools, or disappearing edge swimming pools.
It might seem as though the perimeter overflow pools are simple to construct, but the opposite is true... they are one of the most complex and difficult to build. Their hydraulic systems are a hybrid of pressurized returns and gravity drain lines. In addition, they must have holding tanks strategically placed at a remote location. These tanks are called surge tanks. Their size has to be precisely calculated to provide enough water to raise the pools water to a flood level and be able to continue the flooding process until the water is returned to the surge tank.
