In many cases, yes. Adding a beach entry to an existing pool is a popular renovation request. The feasibility depends on your current pool’s construction type (gunite pools are easiest to modify), available deck space, and structural conditions. Our renovation team can assess your existing pool and determine whether a zero entry addition is possible.
A beach entry (zero entry) is the pool’s entry point — a gradual slope from deck level into the water. A tanning ledge (Baja shelf) is a flat, shallow platform at a specific depth for lounging. Many of our clients combine both: a zero entry slope that transitions into a tanning ledge before dropping into the main pool depth.
The zero entry zone starts at 0 inches (deck level) and gradually slopes to 12–18 inches over the first 6–10 feet. From there, the pool transitions to standard swimming depth (3.5–6+ feet). The slope angle is customized based on your lot size and desired wading area.
Zero entry pools require slightly more attention in the shallow beach area because the thin water layer is more susceptible to algae growth from sun exposure. Regular brushing and proper chemical maintenance prevent any issues. The textured pebble finishes we recommend also resist algae better than smooth plaster.
